Newly arrived, everything felt fresh, and I went out for a walk almost every weekend — better than staying home and letting the mold grow on me (literally).
Qianhai Stone Park
Guangshen coastal expressway, facing the newly built Penguin Island.
Gangxia North, the must-pass station for almost every trip “into town”. The daylighting design is special, and so is the ceiling. The light below is from the pantograph headlights of the trains.
On Lianhua Mountain — it poured for fifteen minutes before and after this shot. Below is the Civic Center, which hosts an industrial exhibition hall displaying products from local companies.
Talent Park; “Spring Bamboo” is one of Shenzhen’s most iconic buildings.
Shenzhen Bay Park. It was Friday, July 10 — I dashed to the subway right after work and made it to the seaside. My most successful sunset chase so far.

Xiwan Mangrove Park. It’s a bit too far from home — metro plus cycling adds up to almost two hours. The water would look nice on a clear day, though. Crowded, but close to the airport; that day we were right under the departure flight path.
Almost got swallowed by the rising tide while shooting this — behind the camera there was actually a sea of people.
The weather forecast predicted sunset colors that day.
Low, dirty, thick clouds — seemed hopeless for sunset.
After the sun went down, the sky glowed with a very soft pink instead.
No sunset was forecast that day — a lucky surprise, shot from the rooftop of the building next to my office.
Laojie wooden bridge — a short walkway running parallel to the Beijing–Kowloon railway and the Ganzhou–Shenzhen high-speed line. Even though signs say no e-bikes, I got honked at nonstop while taking these shots. Very Shenzhen.
The evening right after Typhoon Hongxia passed: Galaxy Twin Towers half hidden in the fog. Shooting spot at Guangyayuan exit A2.
Tian’an Yungu Building 4 has a rooftop terrace on the 40th floor — you can ask the front desk downstairs to go up and take a look.
